Philip Conkling, M.D.

Dr. Philip Conkling grew up in Norfolk, VA. He received his undergraduate education at Hamilton College, where he majored in Chemistry. He was awarded the prestigious Bristol Fellowship – with which he performed a photographic study of rural Mississippi.

Later, he completed medical school at New York Medical College, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society. After medical school, he completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. He then continued on to ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University, where he was elected as a chief resident of his graduating class.

Dr. Conkling joined Retina Consultants as a vitreoretinal fellow in July 2024. He is active in ongoing research and has presented at numerous national conferences, including research in outcomes of macula-involving retinal detachments among young adults. He enjoys spending his free time outdoors with his wife and two boys. He is currently engaged in a lifetime goal of summiting all of the Adirondack High Peaks.
