Matthew Habib, M.D.
Dr. Matthew Habib is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist who was born in Brooklyn, New York but having grown up in Albany, he considers the Capital Region his home. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University at Albany, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in both Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and in Psychology, with a minor in Neuroscience.
Matthew subsequently earned his Medical Degree (MD) at the Albany Medical College, where he received the Ophthalmology Achievement Award for his research and interest in the field of ophthalmology.
After finishing his medical education, Matthew completed a general surgery internship at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York. He then returned to his hometown and completed his ophthalmology residency at Albany Medical Center where he also received awards for both clinical and academic excellence.
Matthew completed his two-year vitreoretinal fellowship with Albany Medical College. He joined Retina Consultants as a full-time Associate in September 2024.
Dr. Habib’s practice covers all areas of medical and surgical retina ncluding age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic exams, management of diabetic retinopathy, epiretinal membranes (puckers), macular holes, macular edema, retinal venous and arterial occlusive disease, hydroxychloroquine screening, as well as anterior/intermediate/posterior uveitis. He is also extensively trained in the surgical treatment of retina tears, complex retinal detachments, diabetic tractional retinal detachments, ocular trauma, secondary intraocular lenses, and endophthalmitis.
Outside of work, Matthew enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and two boys. He is very active in his Coptic Church and community and spends many hours weekly both practicing his faith and helping younger generations reach their potential. In his spare time, he loves to both watch and play basketball and enjoys the great outdoors!
