Pawan Bhatnagar, M.D.
Dr. Pawan Bhatnagar joined Retina Consultants PLLC in 2011. He was born and raised in New Jersey. After high school, he earned his medical degree in an accelerated 6 year combined BA/MD program at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. During medical school he was awarded the Richardson K. Noback Award for Medical Excellence, the Pharmacology Achievement Award, the Merck Manual Award, and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA).
Dr. Bhatnagar subsequently completed his ophthalmic residency at the Cole Eye Institute of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. His fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery was completed at Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital (Harkness Eye Institute) and Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants (VRMNY) in New York City. He then joined the staff as a vitreoretinal surgeon at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York as a Vitreoretinal Surgeon where he also completed a fellowship in Uveitis and Ocular Inflammation while serving as an attending Retina Surgeon.
Dr. Bhatnagar has been selected by his peers as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor yearly since 2014. Understanding the complexity and life impact of retinal and uveitic disease, he values treating his patients with warmth, compassion, and individually tailored care.
Dr. Bhatnagar has presented and lectured at both national and local meetings, has authored numerous publications in the peer reviewed literature, written a book chapter on retinal surgery, and published a variety of abstracts. He has been an investigator in multiple national clinical trials and actively participates in clinical projects. His publications have included research in Age Related Macular Degeneration, Choroidal Neovascularization in Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum, Diabetic Retinopathy, Diabetic Retinal Surgery, Outcomes and Techniques in Macular Hole Surgery, Ocular inflammatory conditions, and Central Serous Chorioretinopathy among others.
Dr. Bhatnagar currently presides over the Retinal Service at Albany Medical Center’s Ophthalmology Service in addition to serving as a preceptor for the Retina fellowship at Albany Medical Center.
Dr. Bhatnagar is married with two children with whom he loves spending his free time. Together they enjoy traveling, visiting family, and a variety of sports.
