Dr. Matthew Habib was born in Brooklyn, New York but having grown up in Albany, he considers the Capital Region his home. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University at Albany, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in both
Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and in Psychology, with a minor in Neuroscience.

He subsequently earned his medical degree at the Albany Medical College, where he received the Ophthalmology Achievement Award for his research and interest in the field of ophthalmology.

After finishing his medical education, Matthew completed a general surgery internship at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York. He then returned to his hometown and completed his ophthalmology residency at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Habib joined Retina Consultants as a vitreo-retinal surgery fellow in July 2022.

Outside of work, Dr. Habib enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and two boys. He is very active in his Coptic Church and community and spends many hours weekly both practicing his faith and helping younger generations reach their potential. In his spare time, he loves to both watch and play basketball and enjoys the great outdoors!
