Chad P. Bouchard, D.O. is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is originally from a small town in Northern Maine and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine-Fort Kent. He graduated from medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and was selected for the F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program. Following a transitional internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, he performed a General Medical Officer tour with 110th Chemical Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, serving as the unit Field Surgeon providing care and command guidance about the effects of weaponized chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear sources. Afterward, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Madigan Army Medical Center and served as Chief Resident during his final year of training. While on active duty, Dr. Bouchard was hand selected to participate in eye surgical humanitarian missions with Joint Task Force-Bravo to Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
He completed his active duty service obligation in 2017 as a Major in the U.S. Army where he was the USARAK Chief, Warfighter Refractive Surgery Center. He subsequently went into private practice for one year as a comprehensive ophthalmologist, cataract, and refractive surgeon in Anchorage, Alaska. While there, he served as a clinical instructor for Alaska Family Medicine Residency. He holds multiple ophthalmic certifications for refractive surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, such as WaveLight Allegretto Wave EyeQ, VISX Customvue LASIK, iFS Advanced IntraLase bladeless LASIK, ORA System with VerifEye, Glaukos iStent, and Alcon Cypass micro-stent. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and previously served as an Advocacy Ambassador.
Dr. Bouchard is very excited to join Retina Consultants as a vitreo-retinal surgery fellow. During his free time, he can be found hiking, cycling, skiing, fishing, or adventuring in the outdoors with his wife, Whitney, and their two daughters, Aspen and Violet.
